Multilingual Search Engine Optimization

istockphoto_14680070-seo-and-earthACCU Translations has experience managing our clients MSEO strategies (Multilingual Search Engine Optimization). When localizing a website, we recommend to our customer to implement a consistent MSEO strategy. An MSEO strategy is more difficult to accomplish than only dealing with one language. There is a multitude of information available on the web about this topic however we find the following article helpful in understanding this process better. There are also many vendors doing this task which is why we believe in working with one partner that understands your particular needs is ideal.

Although we can provide a translation of your key terms only, you might be looking for a strategy that will increase your international visibility and web traffic in order to generate additional awareness.

Key terms are the base level of any SEO campaign – it establishes the focus – what you want to ‘optimize’ the site for. Once this is done – SEO is broken down into two core areas – on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

On-page optimization looks at 2 main areas:

  1. Site technical compatibility – How compatible a site is with search engines… i.e. how easy it is for search spiders to find, navigate and base the site for keywords. Issues effecting technical compatibility are wide and far reaching… examples being site architecture, navigation, hierarchy, site maps, re-directs, coding etc. A Technical review with your web team is required in order to properly define deliverable that will respond to your specific expectations
  2. Meta-data and content optimization – Chosen keywords need to be implemented into the relevant site meta-data and content… with the correct density level… in order for search engines such as Google and Yahoo! to determine that the site and pages are relevant to certain keywords. The way in which content is optimized and meta-data is constructed also is a factor in rankings

On-page optimization accounts for around 50% of the success of SEO… and thereafter… it is off-page optimization that effectively drives the rankings higher and allows companies to compete at the top level in search results. By quite some degree, the biggest factor in off-page optimization is link building – and link building is the process of building links to the client’s site on other relevant websites around the keywords you are targeting. The link should be anchor texted to the keyword you’re optimizing. Link building campaigns are run by market and are usually run for 6 months to 12 months.
